Jesse is part of the core faculty at the Handmade Music School at the Floyd Country Store! The Handmade Music School is a hub for traditional music education, celebrating the region’s rich musical heritage while fostering community and creativity. The school offers a variety of workshops, classes, camps, special events, and private lessons in traditional Appalachian instruments such as the banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced musician looking to take your playing to another level, private lessons provide the opportunity to get the personal attention that can be beneficial to your growth as a musician.
Jesse is available for both guitar and mandolin lessons, in-person or via Zoom. Lessons are scheduled for either 30 or 60 minute sessions.

​How Handmade Music School Lessons Work

• New students will book a 30 minute trial lesson. Existing students will choose a lesson duration: 30 minutes or 60 minutes.
• Next, you’ll choose a teacher. Each teacher specifies their instrument(s), skill level and teaching strengths. You'll see Jesse Smathers in this list.
• Next, you’ll choose a time. Each teacher specifies their availability.
• Confirm and register your lesson. A HMS team member will be in touch
• After your trial lesson, our team will set you up to continue your musical journey!
